Random Access Criticism - Internet Pundits are... →
Some good thoughts on the insta-reviews of RAM, and other releases:
This time, however, it’s not because Daft Punk supposedly failed to live up to Homework and Discovery (depending on one’s preference between the two). Instead, I’m going to blame the internet. It’s turned into a disintegrating force in music. Piracy really isn’t at fault; jackasses with opinions and...

downtownlobby:
With summer inching its way closer and closer each day, so are the all of the festivals taking place around town. We know how hard it can be to try to remember all of the events coming up during the next few months, so we created a list of summer festivals with ticket and lineup info which will be…

It was reported yesterday that Ms. Lauryn Hill has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor failure to file taxes. These charges were incurred for the years of 2005-2007, during a time in which Ms. Hill had removed herself and her family from society, in order to keep them safe, healthy, and free from danger. In response to these charges, Ms. Hill has issued the following...

– Justin Timberlake And The AC/DC Rule (via annielin)
This is a standard practice inside the music industry and doesn’t just apply to the public response. You’re paid today based on the success of your previous album / show / whatever. This is why a lot of bands sign a typical entry-level...

jtotheizzoe:
In this excerpt from his new book, How Music Works, musician David Byrne explores some of the latest neuroscience regarding how it is, exactly, certain patterns of sound that fall within particular ranges of frequencies can affect our brains so greatly:
“…the sonic range that matters and interests us the most is identical to the range of sounds we ourselves produce. Our ears and...

INXS - "Need You Tonight" / "Mediate"
This video was MASSIVELY influential to me as an 8-year old watching it on Mtv. Great music & visuals, and I love the way they just flow one song into the other. Classic. Michael Hutchence was brilliant, as was the entire band. This album is a top-10 of all time IMO.

“I am appalled by Bridezillas. I should make it clear that I have never seen an episode of the reality show. I hate Bridezillas for one simple reason: Bride does not rhyme with god. Ergo, Bridezillas is not a functioning pun.
The point is significant because bridezilla…

If you’ve ever read through a contract from a major label, whether a license or, god forbid, an artist recording contract, you know that you’re in for a lengthy treat when it’s time to review a deal. Some of the boilerplate is standard, one-sided stuff, and some of it is negotiable stuff –…

Hour Of The Time Majesty 12: Zaireeka Party →
hottmt:
Zaireeka is a word made by combining the words Zaire (a republic in central Africa that has fallen into anarchy and dissorder) with eureka (discovery, new idea). Cool. It was created to be the title of the Flaming Lips famous 4 cd experimental album. While we have listened to this album several…
